As a virtual assistant, if you are working for an American client – it is important that you are aware of their Federal holidays so you can at least greet them and make them feel that you know what they are celebrating for. Not every business observes each holiday, so making sure that you know whether your client does or doesn’t can be helpful.
Although you may be working on a holiday, the client may have a different protocol for that day like limited or no phone calls & emails. Be sure to ask your client if they have a different rules for you if you are working.
Here is the list of the US Federal Holidays that you need to mark on your calendars:
New Year’s Day (January 1)
This is the first day of the year and we are also celebrating New Year’s Day – send your client a greeting – wishing them a prosperous and wonderful year ahead.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Third Monday of January)
This holiday celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr. – an influential American civil rights leader.
George Washington’s Birthday (Third Monday of February)
This is also known as the President’s Day which honors presidents of the United States – including George Washington, the United States’ first president.
Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
This celebrates those who died in active military service. Your client would appreciate it if you would at least send a card – greeting them a Blessed Memorial Day.
Independence Day (July 4)
From the word itself, this holiday commemorates the declaration of independence of the United States from Great Britain in 1776.
Labor Day (First Monday in September)
This day celebrates the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. Greet your client on Labor Day!
Columbus Day (Second Monday in October)
This day remembers the voyage of Christopher Columbus to the Americas in 1492.
Veterans Day (November 11)
This day is dedicated to honoring anyone who has served in the United States military.
Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday in November)
This is a family-oriented tradition in the country in which Americans give thanks for the blessings of the harvest & of the proceeding year.
Christmas Day (December 25)
This is the most wonderful time of the year commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. Send love on Christmas Day by greeting your client a Merry Christmas.
