When Hannah joined HireSmart Virtual Employees on March 23, 2016, she was looking for stability, flexibility, and an opportunity to grow while working from home. Ten years later, she has built a remarkable career and now serves as the company’s Director of Training—playing a key role in shaping the success of every new Virtual Employee (VE).
As we celebrate her 10-year anniversary, we asked Hannah to reflect on her journey, insights, and what continues to inspire her every day.
What drew you to apply to HireSmart 10 years ago, and what were your first impressions of the company?
“I applied to HireSmart back then because I already had experience working with US real estate, so the role felt like a really good fit for my background. At the same time, I was also looking for an opportunity that would allow me to work from home so I could be with my family while still building my career.”
You’ve been here for a decade. What value do you see personally, and what value do you see for VEs?
“For me personally, it’s really been about stability and growth. Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, but HireSmart gave me the chance to build something long-term. It’s not just about having a job, it’s about being able to grow, take on new challenges, and feel secure at the same time. That balance is something I really value.
For the VEs (including myself), I think the biggest value is the opportunity it provides. A lot of people come in looking for flexibility and a stable income, but they end up gaining so much more—like skills, experience, and exposure to working with international clients. It opens doors, especially for those who are willing to learn and stick it out.”
What’s the toughest challenge new VEs face, and what traits do they need to succeed?
“I think one of the toughest challenges for new VEs is adjusting to the expectations, especially working with American clients closely. The pace can be fast, the standards are high, and there’s a bit of a learning curve when it comes to communication, tools, and really understanding what clients need.”
What makes a great day for you in this role? When do you feel most successful?
“As the training director, a great day for me is when we hear positive feedback from clients, especially when they share that their VEs are doing a great job. That’s really when everything feels worth it. It shows that the training, support, and effort we’ve put through are actually translating into real results.”
Which company core value resonates with you the most, and why?
“I’d say Ethics and Integrity really resonate with me the most. Over the years, I’ve seen how important it is to be honest and do the right thing, even when it’s not always the easiest option.
For me, ethics also means being willing to have those difficult conversations, especially when a colleague makes a mistake. It’s not always comfortable, but being honest and addressing things early helps people grow and prevents bigger issues down the line.”
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
“Lately, since I’m pregnant, I’ve been spending most of my free time resting and really savoring moments with my family. I try to slow things down a bit and just enjoy being present.
We usually spend time playing together, I cook meals for them when I have the energy, and sometimes we just relax and watch movies. It’s nothing too fancy, but those simple moments have become really important to me.”
What’s a random skill or talent you have that’s unrelated to work?
“This might be a bit random, but I’d say two things: I’m pretty good at some video games, and I also have a knack for candle-making. They’re both completely unrelated to work, but I enjoy them a lot.
Gaming is more for fun and unwinding, while candle-making is something I find relaxing and a bit creative at the same time.”
What’s a personal goal or dream you’re working toward right now
“Right now, my main personal goal is really centered around my growing family. With the baby on the way, I want to be as prepared as I can—not just financially, but also in terms of creating a stable, balanced life where I can be present both at work and at home.
We’ve also recently purchased a home, and we’re about 80% into completion, so that’s something I’m really excited about. It feels like a big milestone for us, and I’m looking forward to building our life there.”
What song do you play when you need an instant mood boost?
“Lately, anything by Sabrina Carpenter, haha. Her songs are just really easy to listen to and instantly lift my mood. It’s the kind of music I can play anytime.”
Beach, mountains, or city—and where would your dream weekend getaway be?
“100% the beach! I’ll always choose the beach over anything else. Although summer is kind of cancelled for me this time since I can’t travel too far because of my pregnancy, I’m still definitely a beach person at heart.
The most beautiful place I’ve been to is Balabac in Palawan, and it’s honestly a total paradise. The water, the sand—everything just feels untouched and peaceful. It’s even worth the 8-hour drive from the airport. You should definitely check it out sometime!”
